California is no stranger to having people building a luxurious residence on the coastline. However, this residence is not your ordinary luxurious dwelling. Portabello Residence on Corona Del Mar’s Brighton Rod is a 22 square feet residence at oceanfront housing no less than eight bedrooms, ten bathrooms, and two artificial saltwater pools with three story high grotto cliffs surrounding them. The master bedroom is 2,000 square feet large and there are five half baths beside the ones I mentioned before.
So, really what do people take into a house that is 22,000 square feet big and has 2,000 square feet for a bedroom only? The Portabello Residence is equipped with a two-lane bowling alley, complete with a dedicated rental area for shoes and balls. There is also a museum of an automobile with control for climate or pressure of the room and lighting capable to hold a collection of up to twelve collectible cars. A jewelry store is also “open” for inhabitants to display their family heirlooms, understandably.
And, as other “normal” luxurious residence, it has a private movie theater. However, as is the house, this is also no ordinary private movie theater as it is completed with the regulars which are the ticket booth and the stage and something more of higher taste: marquee and powder room. There is, of course, a fitness center equipped with full facilities from cardio equipment to Pilate’s reformer and locker room. The furnishings are customs with, thankfully, playfulness attached.
Eventually, in late 2010, The Portabello Residence was sold for $34.1 million which was sadly half of what was originally asked of $75 million. Check out the photos we have of Portabello Residence below to admire the amazing architectural work and learn how the old owners really thought everything out, obviously besides the fact that the price might actually go down. And we do have the right to dream our own dream house. Just maybe not as grand as the Portabello.
